Nitpick Description

Submitted by Nitpicker : 26614
Movie : Aliens - 1986
Nitpick Category : Plot
Approximate time of Nitpick : 3/4 of the way through
Summary : Burke, Two Facehuggers and a pulse rifle in Medlab
Detail : I haven’t seen this nitpick listed, so I thought I’d bring this up.\n \n Here it is, in order of events as we saw them:\n \n 1. Ripley and Newt fall asleep under the bed in the infirmary ajoinining to the MedLab.\n \n 2. When they awake, the pulse rifle is out in the Lab, resting on the counter. The facehuggers have gotten loose. The cannisters are toplled over on the floor. Ripley and Newt try the infirmary door. It’s lock is broken from the outside.\n \n 3. Burke, obviously the one responsible for this, turns off the monitor in Ops.\n \n \n My question is this: if Burke did this , how, exactly? Either he had help (unlikely, since it’s implied he acted alone) or he’s an android . Before you get tickled pink over such a delusion, keep in mind:\n \n 1. Burke has to watch Ripley and Newt fall asleep. He turns off the monitor, unless he wants to take a chance on others seeing what he’s up to. He rushes down to MedLab.\n \n 2. *Without* being seen or heard, sneaks into infirmary, takes the pulse rifle off the bed, and *without* being seen or heard, sneaks out. \n \n 3. Puts pulse rifle on counter. Knocks over facehugger cannisters *without* fear .\n -he obviously doesn’t care if he gets facehugged himself, does he? Now, he knocks them over *without* being heard. We will assume Burke has fear, so he runs to Ops, turns on the monitor and waits. Wait a second. Didn’t he ruin the door lock? That’s right! He did! So this means that he didn’t run when he knocked over the cannisters. He waited until both facehuggers were in the room with Ripley and Newt. Shut the door and destroyed the lock. Oh yeah, *without* being heard.\n \n But...he was pressed for time. Waiting around for two facehuggers to go into said room would increase the risk of getting caught. Especially if video monitors are off. Someone could notice. Again, he could get facehugged himself. Did he grab the facehuggers by the tails and toss them both in where Ripley and Newt lay?\n \n

Summary:

Burke was not an android

Detail :

Although there is no proof of this in the film, there is a scene that was cut which shows Ripley encountering Burke while searching for Newt near the end of the film. Burke is encased in the alien wall and has been implanted. He asks Ripley to shoot him, but she hands him a grenade instead. (I don't think aliens can implant androids)

This was filmed but never used in the original or Special Edition, probably because it doesn't make sense time wise. while Newt was captured less than 10 minutes after Burke, her face hugger is just emerging from it's egg when Ripley finds her. So Burke would not have had time to get face hugged, implanted, have the face hugger fall off and then wake up.
