When the fellowship lands above the falls af Rauros near the end of the movie, the plot differs from the books. That's fine, but the contrivance for delay causes a nit. In the book, they are looking for a portage around the falls, which allows time for the events that split the fellowship. In the movie, they are waiting to cross the river to continue down the other side. Aragorn's reason is that they have to wait for nightfall because of the orcs. This is all wrong. The orcs they are familiar with don't venture out into the sunlight. Daylight would be the perfect time for them to continue. He clearly knows this because when they leave Khazad-dum (Moria) he urges them on before nightfall because the orcs will swarm out after dark. |
