Quiz Show is BASED on the 21 scandal. It is not meant to be an exact documentary. There are actually quite a few discrepancies from actual facts, notably how the show is played and the time frame for the scandals being exposed. (Van Dorn had lost long before anything came out.) Movies that are merely based on true events do not need to be exact.

And show that the movie is not a documentary, in real life, the scandal came to light in 1959. However, Herb Stempel's appearances were in late 1956. Both he and Van Dorn were off the show WAY before the committee investigated tany of the show. The whole scene of Goodwin showing up at Van Dorn's last taping with the envelope from Snodgrass is compelte fiction. Therefore, the movie can make Stempel's son any age they want.
