More like indentured servants

Anakin's mother was called a slave, but she had the right to live in her own residence. Anakin was also a slave, but he had enough free time to build C3PO. Their condition was more like indentured servitude than slavery, and maybe she had the time and the privacy to have another child in the years after Anakin left.

Siblings can be YOUNGER too

Whichever one was related to Anakin, he or she could have been born later. As for slaves not having time to go and have kids, where did all the Isrealites come from. Kids happen.

Blood Relatives?

This could be explained in three ways. 1) Anakin's mother gains her freedom, marries, has kids. 2) They are related through Armidala's side. 3) Owen and Beru were actually just friends of the family.

ONLY CHILD

UNCLE OWEN AND AUNT BERU COULD HAVE BEEN SURROGATE PARENTS.. I FEEL THE ANSWER IS COMING IN THE NEXT MOVIE. OR MOVIE 3.

They are his foster parents

Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru are Luke's foster parents and Luke just refers to they as his Uncle and Aunt. I read about this on the offical Lucus web site for Star Wars. There is listed quite alot of info about characters and both Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru are mentioned as being Luke's foster parents. It also mentions that Obi-Wan is the one that left Luke with them. I guess we'll find more out about this as the 2nd and 3rd episodes are released.

When Amidala became pregnant, Anakin was upon the path to the darkside. fearing for the unborn jedi twins safety - when they were born the daughter was adopted by Bail Organa of alderaan ( obi wans best friend ) and the son was given to Obi wans brother Owen Lars.

Unlce Owen was actually Obi-Wan's brother. He needed someone to look after Luke and asked Owen and his wife Beru to do it. (most likely it was Beru who wanted to do it not Owen) Owen didn't want Obi-wan corrupting Luke like he did Anakin, that's why he didn't like Obi-wan, but he knew that Luke needed to be hidden for the good of the galaxy. I can't remember where I read this, but it was in a Star Wars Source book for the roleplaying game.

Adoptive Uncle and Aunt

Uncle Owen was in fact Obi-Wan Kenobi's brother, and Luke was sent to stay with him to hide him from his Father (Darth Vader).

Obi-Wan Lied Again

In the novelization & shooting script to Return of theJedi, Obi-Wan tells Luke that he was separated from his sister & both were hidden from their father. Leia was entrusted to Bail Organa on Alderaan, & Luke was given to Obi-Wan's(!)brother, Owen Lars(?). Obi-Wan has consistantly told Luke about his past using -A CERTAIN POINT OF VIEW-(i.e.Vader killed Luke's father, Anakin wanted Luke to have his lightsabre, even though he later states Luke & Leia were hidden to keep their existence from Anakin). It is commonly believed that Obi-Wan screws up soooo bad with Anakin, both he & Yoda feel that ANY lie or half-truths can be justified by needing Luke to redeem Anakin & in turn, redeem themselves.

If anyone recalls Return of the Jedi or read the book, Obi Wan explains to Luke that Owen was his brother not Anakin's. Therefore, Anakin is an only child.

Owen is Obi-Wan's brother (it's in the Jedi Apprentice books).

In the book Return of the Jedi, written by James Khan, the end of chapter 3 contains a conversation between Luke and the shade of Obi-Wan following Yoda's death. Luke discovers the truth about Vader being Anakin Skywalker, his father, and also of the existence of his sister, Princess Leia. When Obi-Wan explained the decision to hide them from Vader, he mentioned that Luke was sent to Tatooine. Here I quote: [Your mother and I knew he would find out eventually, but we wanted to keep you both as safe as possible, for as long as possible. So I took you to live with MY BROTHER Owen, on Tatooine. . .]

Could have been on Amidala's side.

Either the Uncle or Aunt could have been the Queen's brother or sister. Also, it just doesn't seem very likely that Owen could have been Obi-wan's brother. If you remember, in A New Hope, when Owen and Beru were killed, Obi-wan did not even seem to care all that much. In fact he didn't seem to react as if he knew them at all. He gave a word of sympathy and moved on with business. If my brother had just been killed, I think I would be a little more affected by it.

I read.. *Possible EP 2 Spoiler*

I read a "Script" of episode 2 on some site.. and while I don't believe its the actual script it was VERY well written.. and has some possibilites. In this script.. it has Anakin and Padme coming back to Tatooine, Anikin goes to Watto to find his mother, only to find the shop abandoned. Somehow he find Shmi, and she is engaged or married to Owen Lars's father. (Owen is from a previous marriage). While Shmi is out checking a moisture evapourator, she is killed by some Sandpeople.. Anikin rages.. kill Sandpeople.. dark side.. here he comes. Erm.. But.. I know I have read/hear somewhere before that the Lars' were related to Obi-Wan. Just, like someone said.. Obi-Wan has that problem with saying.. "A certain point of view" so who knows if he's lying... ?

True that Owen or Beru could be related to Amidala (Though I think they would probably better off), but it IS stated in at least four books that Owen and Obi-Wan are brothers. I know that OB1 didn't seem to care, but if you think about. 1) They're in the middle of a war, he's been losing he clostest friends for a long time 2) He and Owen didn't really get along 3) He is a Jedi and trained for taking that kind of loss 4) He was trying to hide the truth(s) from Luke 5) You don't see him till Luke gets back. If you remember, OB1 knew about it before Luke came back, therefore, could have reacted after Luke left and recovered before he got back CJG

Episode II Explanation

First, in episode I, Anakin is an only child. In episode II, ten years later, Lars Owen buys Shmi Skywalker from Wotto when times turn bad. Owen then marrys Shmi and they have another child, whom they name Owen. Owen's girlfriend, Beru, is then introduced to Anakin Skywalker when he comes back to look for his mother on Tattoine.

Now that Episode II is out we know the truth. Comment 24138 attempts to explain this by saying that "In episode II, ten years later, Lars Owen buys Shmi Skywalker from Wotto when times turn bad. Owen then marrys Shmi and they have another child, whom they name Owen." First, it's not Lars Owen it's Cleig(sp?) Lars (I'm not sure on the first name but I know the last name was Lars). But Owen Lars is not their (Cleig and Shmi) child, only ten years has passed and Owen is obviously older than 10. Owen is from a previous marriage and is, therefore, Anakin's step-brother.

Owen not Obi-Wans brother

Owen Lars was the son of Cliegg Lars and Aika. He was born on the planet of Atora. After Aika died Cliegg got married to Shmi thus making Anakin and Owen step-brothers. While Obi-wan did have a brother it was not Owen since Aika and Cliegg only had ONE child together.
