Nitpick Description

Submitted by Nitpicker : Trekker
Movie : Monty Python and the Holy Grail - 1975
Nitpick Category : Quotations
Nitpick Number : 5057
Approximate time of Nitpick : near the middle
Summary : Inconsistent knights who say NEE
Detail : The knights who say NEE (or NI, if you speak Spanish, French or Italian) have a serious problem with word IT. They freak out whenever they hear it. However, one of those knights (I believe it's the head on the left), says IT and the others don't bat an eyelash. Maybe it's only a problem if strangers say IT.

The knight you are refering to is not the knights of Ni. The only knight of ni that speaks is a one headed tall one with a funky headress and a black beard. The knight you are refering to is the three-headed knight and the three-headed knight has no problem with the word Ni.

You're right...but

Yes that's true but, the head "knight of NEE" also says "it" a few times in the first conversation.

Hadn't they changed their name by this point? "We are no longer the knights that say "ni", we are the knights that say "ecky ecky ecky fetang... (i forget the rest)"

Saying IT....

This is a good nitpick. Here's some more detail: King Arthur says "IT" during their first meeting with the knights of NI and they aren't bothered by it. The head knight of NI says "IT" twice during their second meeting, again with no ill effects, before King Arthur says "IT" again and this time they start complaining about the word. In fact, the first word the head knight of NI says during their second meeting is in fact "IT": "It is a nice shrubbery."

Its only a joke

The whole idea of the skit was that The Knights Who Say Ni werent against hearing the word "it" they were just messing with the passing knights. Same reason the asked for a shubery, and to cut down the tree with a hearing. Its all about mind games.

Above comment is baseless...

There's nothing in the scene to indicate that the Knights of Ni are just pretending to not be able to stand the word "it" in order to mess with King Arthur's men. Where the commentor got that idea is anyone's guess, but it wasn't from the movie. The Knights of Ni weren't playing mind games. They actually wanted the things they demanded, such as the shubery and cutting down a tree with a herring. THAT was the joke and the whole idea of the skit. There was no legitimate reason for this nitpick to have been refuted. Hopefully, the poster will submit it for Appeal.
