Owen is Ben's brother

From my Star Wars knowledge, I know that Owen is actually Obi-Wan Kenobi's brother. I believe that Anakin actually had no brothers or sisters because he had no father which proved to the Jedi Council that he was the prophesied Jedi that would bring balance to the Force. The home planet and name change thing was a good point, though.

I cannot argue with the foolishness of taking Luke to Tatooine, or keeping with the same name, but there is one huge problem with your statement. Owen was NOT his real uncle. If you do a little checking, you will find that Owen Lars is Obi-Wan's brother! Besides, we may discover in future movies that Tatooine was the safest place to hide Luke. Vader may have hated that planet, and sworn never to return I have further suspicions about future movies which I will not share. They may be concidered spoilers.

Lukes gurdian, Uncle Owen is in fact Obi Wans brother not Anakins. Darth Vader was too busy with the destruction of the jedi to look for his son. The reason he did not look for Leia is that he did not know she exsisted not because she changed her name.

Someone commented that "Uncle" Owen is Ben Kenobi's brother. Then isn't his name Kenobi? Seems like Luke should have some explanation for his ancestry. It's really bad when you're trying to hide someone who doesn't even match the name of his guardians. "Yes, I'm Luke Sywalker. My uncle and aunt don't have the same name so I'm obviously not blood related."

it IS anakin's brother!!

Having watched the Attack of the Clones, Anakin goes back to Tatooine to find his mother Shmi. when he does this we are told that Shmi re-married Owen Lars dad (i'm not sure of his name). So Owen IS uncle Owen to Luke,(him being Anakin's step-brother) after all and him being Obi-Wan's brother is absolutely rubbish!!

hello...i'm Owen Vader..err...Skywalker

Lukes uncle Owen is in fact his real uncle thanks to Attack of the Clones...I know this because in "Clones" Anakin meets Owen and Owen tells Anakin that hes his step brother because Shmi was sold to a Farmer who married her and had Owen..Therefore making Anakin and Owen are Step brothers...this nitpick is air tight you see....

I don't profess to be a Star Wars expert, but where did anyone hear that Obi-Wan was related to the Lars family?...Rather, Luke's step-uncle is Owen Lars -- (Luke's paternal grandmother, Shmi Skywalker, married Owen's father;Episode II. Since this is Luke's only living relatives that we know of, besides his mother, Padme, whom I believe raised Leia, it only makes sense that Luke was raised by the Lars family. Anakin Skywalker, a.k.a. Darth Vader, would have no reason to look for Luke on Tatooine since he supposedly didn't know of their existance, which will most likely be verified in 2005's - Episode III, and the twins, Luke & Leia, were separated as a precaution as the last two remaining chances to continue the Jedi order...Remember, the force runs amazingly strong in the Skywalker family. It was foreshadowed at the end of Episode VI that Leia would also become a Jedi. I have 2 suspicions here: One, since Luke became a Jedi in Episode VI, he will probably not have children - as Jedi's don't, but possibly Han and Leia will, before she becomes a Jedi herself, and they will be Skywalkers by blood line...Future characters for Episodes VII through IX?? 2. I supposed it is possible that Anakin's father is Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, a.k.a. The Emperor; one-half of the evil Sith - (spelling?) Remember in Episode I, Shmi said she can't explain how she got pregnant.

Um, one comment said that Jedi don't have children? How, then, would you explain the existence of Luke and Leia? Wasn't Anakin a Jedi?

Anakin was also turning away from the ways of the Jedi when he and Padme had their little fling. Jedi don't have children, it's one of their rules. Watch Episode II, Obi-Wan explains to Anakin that he has other things to focus on. Anakin, however, was not interested in following most of those rules.\r Owen was Anakin's half-brother (both he and Anakin share the same mother), in essence making him Luke's half-uncle by blood. The last names are different because Shmi's changed from Skywalker to Lars when she married Owen's father. So, technically, Owen and Beru *are* Luke's real aunt and uncle (you're obviously not going to be blood relatives with BOTH of them...unless Tatooine is THAT much of a backwater planet, of course!)\r As for hiding Luke on Tatooine, it seems pretty safe to me. Despite being under Imperial control, it's a very backwater planet with a low population and miles and miles of nothing. The imperial stormtroopers would think nothing of the name "Skywalker" since none of them know what Vader's name used to be, and chances are Vader never, ever had any reason to visit Tatooine anyway, so the chances of him ever hearding of a "Skywalker" on Tatooine were extremely remote. Then, of course, there's the fact that, supposedly, Vader never even knew he had any living children until he got close enough to Luke to sense the connection between them via the force.

Just to touch on comments made before this:\r\rThe original concept was that Owen Lars WAS Obi-wan's brother, but that changed when the prequels were made and Anakin's Tatooine family had to be established. The comments about this were probably posted before the prequels were made.\rAbout Tatooine being under Imperial Control, how do we know? It wasn't under the control of the previous government and controlled by the Hutt, so we must assume it's NOT under Imperial control either. (That's why they had so much trouble with Republic credits, pod race? ring a bell!?) The Empire was formed from the current planets that composed the Republic and Tatooine was NOT one of them. \rWe know that Anakin(Vader) thinks that A BABY died with his wife in Episode III, not Twins! Therefore he is not actively pursuing his son, and therefore not looking at Tatooine since there is nothing left there for him to go back too and it's probably not linked to the imperial database or any records or crap like that. He should, however, be pursuing Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda since he does know they ARE still alive. Tatooine may be a planet worth looking at after all! And if he can't find them with the force, what makes us think he can find someone he thinks doesn't exist with the force?\rIt's not until Luke is credited with destroying the Death Star that Vader realizes what's going on and puts 2 and 2 together and realizes his son lives after all. It's just strange in "Empire" that the Emperor and Vader refer to Luke without any references\rto him being Vader's son, until Vader reveals it at the end of the film.\rShoulda went something like this:\r\rEMPEROR: Your son lives after all! We must find him and turn him to the darkside!\rVADER: Yes, Master. (Vader says, but secretly thinking there can be only one master and one apprentice. The emperor has outlived his usefulness. I must convert Luke and take over the galaxy.)
