The original nitpick is valid, although Ugly John wasn't a surgeon (gas passer) I'm not sure about Spearchucker, I thought he was a surgical assistant of sorts. In every episode of MASH, the OR has four operating tables. (One for the commanding officer and three for the swamp doctors) So it seems there was four surgeons at all times. (even though different characters came and went) However, your right about them disappearing without an explanation.\r The first comment seems to have a high estimate for a real life MASH unit. 2,000 people for one MOBILE hospital? That can't be right. The show may of had a lower than real life number but not by that much. The 4077 seemed to have about 100 to 150 people tops.\r Many times during the show, ALL personel were ordered to fall in and the total count there was even lower. (perhaps 50 or so) I realize the problems with getting a hundred or more extras every week for a TV show. Still, I don't think 2,000 is a realistic number per unit. The show mentions that there were 4 or 5 other MASH units in Korea in various episodes. (may or may not be historically accurate) Perhaps the number 2,000 that you read is for all units combined.
